The October 2026 Copilot update marks a major shift from AI as a chat assistant to AI as a complete work platform. Microsoft showcased a new unified Copilot experience that brings together chat, agents, task automation, Office apps and business data into a single workspace.
Users can increasingly delegate substantial pieces of work to Copilot, allowing it to research, analyse, create documents, build presentations and complete multi-step tasks with less manual effort. This positions Copilot as a central hub for getting work done, rather than simply answering questions.
